The left wing Presidential candidate for La France insoumise rejects an agreement against “seats in the legislative elections”.
The petition calling for an alliance between Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Benoît Hamon and Yannick Jadot does not seem to have any effect on the candidate of La France insoumise (Unsubmissive France). In an interview in La Provence to appear on Sunday, he assured that he “will not exchange bits of programs against seats in the legislative elections”. “No one can believe that it is possible to govern a country with a composite majority of people who expect each other from the corner of the wood,” he replied.
Mélenchon ready to join only with conditions
A petition signed by 59,000 people calls for an alliance between Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Benoît Hamon (PS) and Yannick Jadot (EELV). The latter had stressed on Thursday the urgency of “surpassing the devices” and “ego” to establish within two weeks an agreement on a joint project with Benoît Hamon and Jean-Luc Mélenchon, despite major obstacles.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon only conceded: “If I make it through to the second round, I will propose to the socialists and sincere ecologists, eager to break with the past, to govern with us.”
“A mass disappointment”
He said he had no contact with the Socialist candidate: “But he has so much to do. He had to visit Bernard Cazeneuve, Francois Hollande and arrange with the currents of the PS, let’s say he was very busy, I do not blame him.
“Do you believe for a second that if Benoît Hamon and I ran around our necks, hundreds of thousands of people would jump in enthusiasm and forget everything,” he added.
“On the contrary, it would be the mass disappointment of all those who are not ready to amnesty the PS They will not be given a second time the blow of the speech of the bourget. Hamon must understand it: the people who voted for him wanted to free Valls and his policy, and that is what he must remain faithful to! ”
